Margin: Hospitality

Are we seeking Margin for the sake of love; or for the sake of self-love? How do our calendars and emotional reserves impact our Christian practice towards others?

Annie Dillard, in her beautiful book The Writing Life, says, “How we spend our days is of course how we spend our lives.”

In this week’s installment of ‘On Topic’, I address this phenomenon of being too overwhelmed to care, too busy to host, and too strapped to help. Like the Good Samaritan, it’s my hope that those of us seeking to live faithful lives reestablish a healthy Margin that allows us to truly see and engage with others.

If you’re serious about looking for a way to ‘love others with your calendar and your home, not just your head’, maybe consider the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.

Is there someone you’ve been meaning to get to know better? Is there a neighbor, friend or family member that you just haven’t had the time to catch up with. Maybe an invitation to join you for the holiday is the perfect opportunity?
