Surge School

 

Surge is a 9-month, intensive theology-and-leadership development program churches use for discipleship and training of leaders for their churches, workplaces, and all areas of our city. Over 1,000 leaders in Arizona have graduated from Surge and now several other cities across our nation are also participating. Surge remains a vital part of our leadership development strategy.

 

Environments

Three learning environments are utilized in Surge over the course of the nine months:

Individual Study — participants will be expected to complete 2-5 hours of homework each week.

Weekly Tables — participants will engage in a weekly cohort of Ironwood Church participants where we will discuss the reading and bring out the implications for life and leadership.

Intensives — there will be four intensives during the year in which we will gather in person with Surge Students from the East Valley. The intensives feature first-rate scholars and front-line church leaders from around the country.

 

Requirements

Prerequisites for Ironwood Church Participants:

  • Commit to serving in some regular capacity.

  • Be a Covenant Member of Ironwood Church or commit to pursuing Covenant Membership at our next Rooted class.

Curriculum

The curriculum is set up in four sections and students read one book per quarter:

  • Quarter 1: Gospel Story (Biblical Worldview)

  • Quarter 2: Gospel Heart (How People Change)

  • Quarter 3: Gospel Mission (The Goal of the Church)

  • Quarter 4: Gospel Calling (Faith and Work)

Location: Redemption Church Tempe

Dates (subject to change):

  • Q1 Intensive – Wednesday, October 9 | 6:00 – 8:00p

  • Q2 Intensive – Wednesday, November 13 | 6:00 – 8:00p

  • Q3 Intensive – Wednesday, January 8 | 6:00 – 8:00p

  • Q4 Celebration – Wednesday, May 7 | 6:00 – 8:00p

Table Schedule for 2024 – 2025

Location: Ironwood Church, room 202 + 201(subject to change)

  • Day: Mondays

  • First Meeting: September 9

  • Time: 6:30 – 8:15p

  • Frequency: Each quarter, our tables will meet 6-7 times (about 26 times total over the 9 months)

 

Other FAQ:

Cost? $120 per person or for a married couple $85 per person. There is an early bird discount if you register before August 15 (Individual $99 / Married Couple $75/person).

Books? You will be responsible to obtain your books. Kindle is acceptable if you prefer to read electronically.

Homework? The homework each week is required & beneficial.

Leaders? The tables are led through a combination of Surge Graduates, and Ironwood Church Surge School Director, Cristina Adams.

Covenant Member? Yes, you have to be a Covenant Member. If you want to do Surge but are not yet a member, take our next Rooted Class.
